CORE Kiteboarding needed coverage of their athletes across the full Red Bull King of the Air 2025 event at Kite Beach — three days of big air competition in Cape Town's south-easter. The brief was athlete-focused: document CORE riders through heats, on the beach between sessions, and at the podium. I shot across all three competition days as a solo operator, working from the beach and the water's edge to cover the full range — air sequences, landing moments, team reactions, and the podium celebration that closed the event.

King of the Air runs on wind, which means it runs on Cape Town's schedule — you wait, and when the conditions fire, everything happens fast. I positioned on the beach for the majority of competition time, working a long lens to isolate riders against the sky and the Table Mountain backdrop when the haze allowed. The hardest shots to get right are the ones the images can't fully explain — the CORE team sprinting down the beach when their rider's heat result came in (Image 4), a rider alone on the sand after coming off (Image 6), the golden-hour moment of a rider standing at the waterline watching the kites (Image 12). Those are the frames that justify being there for three days rather than one.
