— The advantage

Inside the sport,
behind the camera.

Most sports videographers come at a brief from outside the sport. I come at it from inside — I cycle, surf, run, and read the sport while I'm shooting it. That matters even more for video than stills: anticipating the moment is the difference between an unusable take and the shot that holds the edit together.

Before going freelance I spent 10+ years in the sports industry, including marketing and art direction at CUBE Bikes — one of the largest bike brands in the world. I understand what brands and event organisers need, what athletes will actually wear and use, and what reads as authentic vs staged.

For video specifically, that means knowing where to position the camera before the action happens, what beat the edit needs, and what's worth shooting vs what's filler. Less footage to wade through. Faster delivery. Stronger final cut.

— Frequently asked questions

Sports videography in Cape Town.
What to know.

What does sports videography cost in Cape Town?

Rates depend on shoot length, deliverables, and licence. A typical brand video — half day on location, one 60 to 90-second highlight cut plus two short social reels — starts in the mid-R-thousands. Multi-day campaigns, race series coverage, and athlete content packages are quoted per project. I'll send a clear, itemised scope within 24 hours of your enquiry, with overtime rates and usage rights agreed in writing upfront.

What deliverables do you produce for sports brands?

Standard package is a 60 to 90-second hero video for web and broadcast use, plus 2 to 4 short vertical social cuts (15 to 30 seconds) for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. Additional deliverables on request: behind-the-scenes content, athlete interviews, product-detail B-roll, and stills extracted from video for press kits. Everything delivered ready to publish — colour-graded, sound-designed, formatted for the right aspect ratio.

How quickly do you deliver edited video?

Standard turnaround for a hero video plus social cuts is 7 to 14 days from shoot date. For live events I deliver same-day social reels during the event itself — typically 15 to 30 seconds of edited content within hours — and the full highlight video within 7 days. Tight product launch or campaign deadlines can be accommodated; let me know upfront and I'll quote accordingly.

What equipment do you shoot with?

Sony Alpha cameras for hero footage and a gimbal for stabilised movement work. For action sports — kitesurfing, MTB, trail running — I shoot from inside the sport itself: water housings, MTB-rigged camera setups, and follow-cam where the brief calls for it. Audio is handled with directional mics and lapel mics for interviews. For shoots that need aerial footage, I bring in a licensed SACAA RPL drone operator from my network.

Can you handle photo and video on the same shoot?

Yes — that's the core of how I work. One operator, one brief, both deliverables. You get consistent treatment across stills and motion without coordinating two freelancers, and the same person who shot the campaign edits it. For larger productions where simultaneous photo and video coverage is critical, I bring in a second operator from my network and run the shoot as creative lead.
