Full-race photo coverage of XTERRA South Africa in Grabouw — swim, MTB and trail run across two days, 250 edited images delivered to the race organisation.
XTERRA South Africa is one of the most demanding off-road triathlons on the African continent — open-water swim in Theewaterskloof dam, mountain bike through Western Cape fynbos, trail run across rocky singletrack with the Hottentots Holland range as the backdrop. The race organisation needed a single photographer embedded across both race days: transition zones, swim starts, all three disciplines on course, and finish line moments. Fast delivery for post-race media and athlete use.
— Full two-day coverage as sole photographer on site
— All race disciplines: swim start, MTB course, trail run, transition and finish line
— Race village and event atmosphere
— 250 final edited images delivered to the XTERRA SA race organisation
— Assets for post-race media, athlete distribution and race promotion
XTERRA demands you move constantly and think ahead. The swim start at Theewaterskloof is over fast — I positioned wide to get the full mass entry against the mountains, then shifted to the Sailfish arch for the individual exit shots as athletes came out of the water. On the MTB course the light through the fynbos is variable and the terrain is rough; I used panning at speed on the open red-dirt sections and switched to a longer lens in the technical singletrack where riders slow and focus. The trail run stage gave the best landscape frames — athletes small against the fynbos hillside with the dam and mountains behind. Finish line coverage ran from mid-race finishers through to the winners' tape moments and post-race reactions
— 250 final edited images across two race days
— All three disciplines covered: swim, MTB, trail run, plus transition and finish
— Delivered to XTERRA South Africa for media and athlete use
— Delivered the same daya
