— The brief

Sports photography and video in Cape Town for Future Fly, shooting the launch campaign for the Yellow Fish windsurfing board. The brief covered the full content package: a long-form product video for YouTube and the website, a short social teaser for Instagram, and a stills gallery for product pages and editorial use. Shot on the Cape Town coastline in genuine conditions — real wind, real waves, real riders pushing the board hard. The Yellow Fish is a wave board built for committed windsurfers; the content had to match that.

— The scope

Full campaign shoot across two content tracks. Track one: product and lifestyle stills — board detail shots on the boardwalk, rider portraits with the product, and water action frames of multiple riders in Cape Town surf conditions. Track two: video — a long-form product video (8:24) for YouTube and website use, plus an 18-second social teaser cut for Instagram. All shot in Cape Town, 2024.

— The approach

Cape Town in windsurfing conditions is a specific thing — the southeaster pushes hard and the sea state gets rough fast. I used that rather than worked around it. The board detail and portrait frames were shot on a calm day at the boardwalk — clean blue sky, warm light, board branding front and centre. The water action was shot in full conditions: riders launching aerials, hitting chop, getting thrown in heavy spray. That contrast between the clean product frame and the raw water work is deliberate — it's the same contrast Future Fly builds into the board itself. The long-form video follows a loose narrative from product detail through to full-send session; the teaser cuts straight to the aerial sequence and the board logo. I edited both in-house, no separate post-production vendor.
