— The advantage

Inside the sport,
not around it.

Most sports photographers come at a brief from outside the sport. I come at it from inside — I cycle, surf, run, and read the sport while I'm shooting it. That matters for campaign work, where the difference between a good frame and a usable one is often 50 milliseconds and knowing what's about to happen.

Before going freelance I spent 10+ years in the sports industry, including marketing and art direction at CUBE Bikes — one of the largest bike brands in the world. I understand what brands and event organisers need, what athletes will actually wear and use, and what reads as authentic vs staged.

— Frequently asked questions

Sports photography in Cape Town.
What to know.

What does sports photography cost in Cape Town?

Rates depend on shoot duration, deliverables, and licence. A typical campaign-style shoot — half day on location with around 60 edited images for web and social — starts in the mid-R-thousands. Multi-day brand campaigns, race series coverage, and athlete content packages are quoted per project. I'll send a clear, itemised scope within 24 hours of your enquiry, including overtime rates and usage rights in writing upfront.

How quickly do you deliver edited images after a sports shoot?

Standard turnaround is 5 to 14 days from the shoot date, depending on volume. For live events I deliver same-day social cuts during the event — typically 3 to 5 hero frames within hours — and the full edited gallery within 7 days. Tight deadlines for product launches or social campaigns can be accommodated; let me know upfront and I'll quote accordingly.

What sports do you specialise in?

Core disciplines: cycling and mountain biking, kitesurfing, running and trail running, triathlon, gym and fitness, surfing, watersports, and HYROX. I've shot for CORE Kiteboarding at Red Bull King of the Air, XTERRA South Africa, Virgin Active HYROX, CUBE Bikes, and 361. The common thread is I cycle, run, surf, and read each sport from the inside — that's what makes the difference at 1/2000 of a second when the action's happening.

Do you cover both action and lifestyle frames in a sports shoot?

Yes. Most campaign briefs need both — peak-moment action stills for hero use, plus lifestyle and portrait frames for social, web, and editorial. I work from a shot list agreed upfront so nothing is missed, and I'll suggest additional frames on the day if a moment presents itself. Behind-the-scenes content for your own social channels is included on request.

Can you handle photo and video on the same shoot?

Yes — that's the core of how I work. One operator, one brief, both deliverables. You get consistent treatment across stills and video without coordinating two freelancers, and the same person who shot the campaign edits it. For larger productions where simultaneous photo and video is critical, I bring in a second operator from my network and run the shoot as creative lead.
